Over the past six months, we’ve had the great pleasure of paying several visits to local sculptor and UCCS Art Professor Matt Barton at his jaw dropping home/art studio/compound tucked away in the forest south of Cheyenne Canyon off Highway 115. If you haven’t seen Barton’s super-natural (hyper-natural?) multi-media installations/club houses/forts/Peter Pan parties, you should definitely have a look at some of his work at his website HEREfor a taste of how his sculpture extends seamlessly from his living environment. Despite the fact that acreage is, as Barton describes it, “an Ewok village in progress,” the place is charmed with his playful touch at every turn, and has that rare feeling that nothing–not even a dessicated lizard–is out of place.
