… to us from helena … our kempson capital bruins cross shows us a track and field star … who is looking to make the most of her final high school season … capital high senior audrey bloomquist qualified for state in five track and field events last year and she’s looking to do it again. “as far as individual events i would like to try to win state in the 100. i think i placed fourth last year and some of those above me were seniors so i think it’s a pretty attainable goal and i’m working hard to do that. i’d also like to place in the top three in triple jump,” said audrey bloomquist. audrey anchored the 2018 aa runner-up 4×100 meter relay team. she’s also a threat in the 200 meter dash and long jump. her first love was club gymnastics and capital head coach dick mcmahon says she remains a veteran leader for both “she’s one of the squads. premier athletes in the state. not just track but all-around in just about everything. we’re gonna miss her for one meet. she has to go compete in regionals for gymnastics along with a few of her counterparts with us,” said dick mcmahon. audrey says it takes a couple weeks to fully transition between each sport but to her it’s worth it. “i love spending time with all of my teammates. track season is such a special time because really a school sport in gymnastics it’s not so track kind of provides that school sport aspect,” said audrey bloomquist. that part of it will continue at the next level as audrey is committed to the university of colorado – colorado springs for sprints, jumps, and relays. “i interested in sports manement and marketing and they have a really good program down there. i also have a lot of family that lives in the area so it all just came together,” said audrey bloomquist. the mountain lions will have to wait for now as she hopes to represent the bruins on top of a high school podium later this kempson cross, spring. in helena, swx.
