COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Mandy Horvath has faced a lot of challenges. She lost both her legs in a train accident, and now, in celebration of her 25th birthday, she’s facing another tough one.

You might remember her from the viral video back in April, when she summited the Manitou Incline on her hands.

“Originally I climbed the Incline to raise awareness for Limb Loss Awareness Month, and veterans with PTSD, anxiety, depression, because I found that the amputee community faces these similar issues,” Horvath said.

On Sunday, she began her journey to the summit of Pikes Peak, well aware of the challenges.

“I guess I’m about to become a mountaineer,” Horvath said. “I anticipate that the different terrains will be a challenge, and maneuvering those, getting up.”

She said it’s funny that people are starting to recognize her now, but she’s glad she’s inspiring others.

“I just do things a little differently,” Horvath said. “I promise I’m just like you. If I can get more people outdoors and feeling capable of themselves, that’s awesome.”

She doesn’t know how long the climb will take her, but she’s ready for yet another challenge.

“I know what I am getting myself into but, oh boy.” Horvath said.

She said she’ll post updates of her progress on Facebook.
