The possibility of a sports stadium in downtown Colorado Springs has been discussed for years and a new proposal has reignited the topic.

The new stadium design was presented to the Colorado Springs city council earlier this week. The design calls for a sports stadium and event center to be built in Antlers Park, on the west side of downtown Colorado Springs.

The Colorado Springs Switchbacks, the city’s professional soccer team, would play at the proposed stadium and it would be used for other events and sports as well.

Switchbacks President Ed Ragain was one of the presenters to the city council on Monday, according to KOAA-TV.

The proposed 10,000-seat stadium would meet several criteria of the four-part City for Champions project that Colorado Springs leaders have been working toward. The other components are the U.S. Olympic Museum now under construction, the Air Force Academy visitors center and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs sports medicine center.
