Controversial Flyer

08/28/2017: KXRM (FOX)  … u-c-c-s is gaining national attention… but not for a good reason…..and veterans — in particular are upset after a document turned up around campus.a flyer was posted in a new publication, called the social justice collective weekly. weekly. in it… the author… terry steinawits, wrote that veterans are distracting students in the classroom…. and that they are a right-wing group…. and vets need to be suppressed and banned from 4-year universities. right niw — fox21’s samantha marks explains what the university has to say. it’s somewhat ridiculous but it is their opinion. veterans, students, members of our community, and even people across the country many people are angry with a recent flyer posted to a community bulletin board at u-c-c-s.it doesn’t seem like something that this university would do. and he is right, the flyer was written by someone in the community, and u-c-c-s says the author and publication are not affiliated with the university in any way. their right to do that exists because of people like us, and the people who came before us. the veterans we spoke to agree that everyone has a right of free speech, and they will continue to fight for that right. although we do not agree with the things some people say, we will defend to the death for their right to say it. but that doesn’t mean that they will stay quiet we’re going to use our right of free speech to defend ourselves.chancellor reddy released a statement regarding the flyer this morning saying quote,”people earn the right to study at u-c-c-s by virtue of hard work and individual effort, and we do not bar the door.” “u-c-c-s does not endorse and vigorously rejects the offensive viewpoints expressed in the flyer.” but the next step for the university, is not to take the flyer down. though we may not like it, we will not be censoring other people’s viewpoints. we are veterans, and we are traditional students, and we are all mountain lions. that was samantha marks reporting….the student rans organization at u-c-c-s is hosting a discussion panel on wednesday from 12:30 to 2:30 pm… pm…they want to address any questions or concerns students may have….and say the meeting will be open to students and the public. …
