DACA Fifth Anniversary


Transcript: 08/15/2017: KRDO (ABC) on the fifth anniversary of the deferred action for childhood arrivals… known as “daca”. it’s a program to help “dreamers”… but that help might be cut off… daca is now facing a looming deadline come september… causing roughly 800-thousand recipients to live in fear of deportation… including some here in the springs. president obama created the program… granting children of undocumented immigrants a license, work permit, and protection from deportation. for now, daca is being kept in place by the trump administration, but faces potential repeal. we talked to a u-c-c-s student who says her work permit… is what allows her to go to school… “getting rid of that would take away my income take away what is setting me up for success for after college. it would also make it really really difficult to get through this is my last year in college so it would really difficult to make it through this last year because i do rely on the income to pay for books .” ‘they have to fear the future because the future becomes unknown for them and it distracts them from being able to do what they are here for which is an education and being a contributing member of the u.s. society.” ten states threatened to take the trump administration to court, if the program isn’t brought to an end. …
