The Gazette has named a new editor-in-chief.

Vince Bzdek, an editor at large for The Washington Post and a Colorado native, joins The Gazette on April 4, President and Publisher Dan Steever announced Friday.

Bzdek will succeed Joanna Bean, who left in January to become assistant director of university communications and media relations at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

Bzdek is a graduate of Colorado College. Over the past 10 years, he has held a variety of jobs at The Washington Post, including editor at large, news director, digital political editor and front-page editor. Before that, he was deputy managing editor at The Denver Post. He is an author and has lectured on politics and journalism.

He, his wife and two children are moving to Colorado Springs this month, Steever said.
